Lesson 03 of 12God binding Himself to people through promise and relationship
This lesson matters because covenant is God’s graciously initiated, promise-shaped relationship that creates a people, defines loyalty, advances redemption, and reaches fulfillment in the new covenant through Jesus Christ. My prayer is that you receive this truth as grace, respond in obedience, and allow it to deepen both your relationship with God and your participation in His purpose. — Pastor Travis Morgan

Covenant is God’s graciously initiated, promise-shaped relationship that creates a people, defines loyalty, advances redemption, and reaches fulfillment in the new covenant through Jesus Christ.
Read the Word
establishes God’s covenant sign with creation after the flood.
shows God binding Himself to His promise to Abram.
calls redeemed Israel into covenant vocation.
promises a lasting Davidic house and kingdom.
promises a new covenant of inward law and forgiveness.
God moves first, speaks promise, and creates relationship. Human obedience responds to grace rather than negotiating with an equal.
Covenants unfold with Noah, Abraham, Israel, David, and the promised new covenant, each advancing the biblical story.
Covenants include promises, responsibilities, signs, and consequences. Signs such as rainbow, circumcision, Sabbath, and covenant meal point to relational realities.
Biblical faith is covenant trust: believing God’s word and ordering life around belonging to Him.
Jesus’ blood establishes the new covenant, bringing forgiveness, the Spirit, inward transformation, and a people gathered from the nations.
The new covenant fulfills rather than makes the earlier story meaningless. It reveals where God’s promises were moving.
Grace Revealed
God voluntarily binds His name to promises and remains faithful despite human instability. Covenant is structured grace.
Knowing Him
Covenant means God desires a faithful people who know Him, bear His name, and live near Him.
Why this matters for salvation
The saving work of Jesus establishes promised forgiveness and Spirit-given transformation, bringing people into covenant belonging.
