A subject-specific welcome from

Pastor Travis

This lesson matters because spiritual gifts in ministry are Spirit-given expressions used through prepared, holy, loving, and accountable people to edify others and advance the mission of Jesus. The big idea

Spiritual gifts in ministry are Spirit-given expressions used through prepared, holy, loving, and accountable people to edify others and advance the mission of Jesus.

Read the Word

Key Scriptures

1 Corinthians 12:4–11

describes manifestations given for the common good.

1 Corinthians 13:1–13

makes love the indispensable way.

1 Corinthians 14:1–33

teaches desire, edification, testing, and order.

Acts 3:1–16

shows healing ministry directing attention to Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:16–22

commands believers not to quench the Spirit but to test everything.

01

Availability and dependence

Preparation matters, but gifts are not techniques. Ministers remain dependent on the Spirit and honest about what they sense.

Use humble language. “I believe the Lord may be highlighting…” allows testing; “God told me” can be misused to control.

02

Edification and love

Ask whether ministry strengthens, encourages, comforts, heals, clarifies, and points to Christ. Spectacle and personal branding contradict the common good.

Character and fruit carry gifts safely. Apology and correction are necessary when we speak or act wrongly.

03

Test and remain accountable

Scripture, leadership, mature believers, fruit, and the confession of Jesus help weigh ministry. Confidentiality and safeguarding remain essential.

Destiny should cultivate expectancy without hype and order without fear.

Grace Revealed

Grace brings truth into life.

The Spirit gives manifestations freely and lets imperfect people participate in His care under grace and correction.

Knowing Him

Every truth leads toward God.

Gifts are moments of dependence upon the living Jesus, but intimacy must remain centered on Him rather than supernatural experiences.

Why this matters for salvation

God’s teaching serves His saving purpose.

Gifts confirm truth, strengthen faith, bring mercy, and serve proclamation and perseverance within God’s saving mission.

Lesson notes

Remember these truths.

  • Gifts are manifestations, not possessions.
  • Love governs ministry.
  • Edification is the aim.
  • Testing is biblical.
  • Correction protects people.

Respond to the Word

Reflect and apply.

  1. How will you communicate humbly?
  2. What fruit should a gift produce?
  3. Who may weigh your ministry?
  4. Where can hype enter?
  5. How will you keep Jesus central?
Pray the truth

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of spiritual gifts in ministry. Pursue love, remain available, speak humbly, submit to testing, and make Jesus visible. Let Your grace form me, draw me nearer to You, and make my life useful in Your saving purpose. Amen.
