Lesson 07 of 11

Personal Evangelism

Carrying the gospel through ordinary relationships

A subject-specific welcome from

Pastor Travis

This lesson matters because personal evangelism joins prayer, genuine relationship, attentive listening, clear gospel explanation, testimony, invitation, and ongoing discipleship in the ordinary places God has already put us. My prayer is that you receive this truth as grace, respond in obedience, and allow it to deepen both your relationship with God and your participation in His purpose. — Pastor Travis Morgan

The big idea

Personal evangelism joins prayer, genuine relationship, attentive listening, clear gospel explanation, testimony, invitation, and ongoing discipleship in the ordinary places God has already put us.

Read the Word

Key Scriptures

John 4:4–42

shows Jesus engaging one person and reaching a community.

Acts 8:26–40

models Spirit-led conversation beginning with a question.

Colossians 4:2–6

joins prayer for open doors with wise, gracious speech.

Romans 10:8–17

shows the necessity of hearing the message of Christ.

1 Thessalonians 2:1–12

combines gospel truth with shared life and affection.

01

Begin with people, not projects

See the person, learn the story, ask questions, serve genuine needs, and pray. Relationship does not mean hiding the gospel indefinitely.

Love and clarity belong together. We speak because Jesus is good news, not because a person is a target.

02

Explain and invite

Share who Jesus is, His death and resurrection, our need, and the apostolic response of faith, repentance, baptism in Jesus’ name, and receiving the Spirit.

Ask what the person understands and whether they want to respond, study further, attend, or pray.

03

Stay for discipleship

Evangelism is not complete follow-through by itself, but love remains after the conversation. Help people connect, answer questions, celebrate steps, and enter shared church life.

Simple consistency often matters more than a single impressive encounter.

Grace Revealed

Grace brings truth into life.

God pursues people first, arranges encounters, and gives the Spirit’s courage. We join grace already at work.

Knowing Him

Every truth leads toward God.

Evangelism is overflow from knowing Jesus; we invite others toward the One we love.

Why this matters for salvation

God’s teaching serves His saving purpose.

The saving gospel must be heard and answered. Personal relationships carry that invitation with credibility and care.

Lesson notes

Remember these truths.

  • People are not projects.
  • Clarity serves love.
  • The gospel includes response.
  • Listen for the Spirit and the person.
  • Follow-up matters.

Respond to the Word

Reflect and apply.

  1. Who is already in your life?
  2. What question can you ask?
  3. Can you explain Acts 2 clearly?
  4. What invitation fits now?
  5. How will you follow up?
Pray the truth

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of personal evangelism. Pray for names, build trust, explain Jesus clearly, invite response, and remain for the next step. Let Your grace form me, draw me nearer to You, and make my life useful in Your saving purpose. Amen.
