A subject-specific welcome from

Pastor Travis

A strong spiritual life is usually built through ordinary faithfulness repeated over time. The big idea

A daily life with God is cultivated through grace-shaped rhythms of Scripture, prayer, worship, rest, community, service, examination, and obedience that keep the whole life available to Christ.

Read the Word

Key Scriptures

John 15:1–17

makes abiding in Christ the source of fruit.

Mark 1:32–39

shows Jesus withdrawing to pray amid ministry demands.

Psalm 1:1–6

portrays sustained meditation producing rooted fruitfulness.

Acts 2:42–47

shows personal devotion embedded in shared church practices.

1 Timothy 4:7–16

connects spiritual training, progress, doctrine, and salvation.

01

A rule that serves relationship

A rule of life is an intentional pattern that helps order time and desire around love for God. Like a trellis supporting a vine, it does not create life; it gives growing life structure.

Avoid copying someone else’s schedule without regard for season, health, family, and work. Build a realistic rhythm you can practice, review, and adjust.

02

Daily, weekly, and seasonal rhythms

Daily: Scripture, prayer, surrender, brief pauses, and examination. Weekly: gathered worship, Sabbath rest, community, generosity, and service. Seasonally: fasting, retreat, extended study, celebration, and honest evaluation.

Rhythms should include receiving and giving, solitude and community, work and rest. Imbalance eventually distorts formation.

03

Return when the rhythm breaks

Missed days are not proof of rejection. Legalism makes the practice a measure of worth; grace makes it a way of returning. Begin again without drama.

Measure fruit rather than streaks alone: Are love, obedience, attentiveness, courage, and service growing? Let leaders and trusted believers help you remain honest and supported.

04

From intimacy to mission

A daily life with God must open outward. Prayer leads to intercession, Scripture to obedience, worship to service, and rest to renewed availability.

The goal is not a private spiritual bubble. We abide so that we bear fruit, love one another, and make Jesus known.

Grace Revealed

Grace brings us near.

Spiritual practices do not earn belonging. They receive and respond to the relationship Christ has already opened. When rhythms fail, grace calls us back rather than driving us into hiding.

Knowing Him

Truth becomes shared life with God.

A rule of life protects attention for the One we love. Small repeated choices create room to hear, answer, enjoy, and walk with God throughout ordinary days.

Why this matters for salvation

Saved people are brought into fellowship.

Paul connects attention to life and doctrine with saving perseverance. Practices cannot save as merit, but they help believers remain in truth, resist drift, grow in holiness, and participate faithfully in God’s preserving grace.

Lesson notes

Remember these truths.

  • A rule of life is a trellis, not the source of life.
  • Build rhythms appropriate to your real season.
  • Balance solitude, community, work, and rest.
  • Return by grace when practices break.
  • Intimacy should bear fruit in love and mission.

Respond to the Word

Reflect and apply.

  1. Design a realistic daily rhythm.
  2. What weekly practice is missing?
  3. Where has legalism entered your disciplines?
  4. What fruit will you use to evaluate growth?
  5. Who can support your rule of life?
Pray the truth

Lord Jesus, teach me to abide in ordinary life. Order my time, desires, work, rest, relationships, and service around love for You. When I drift, call me back by grace. Let daily fellowship bear fruit that makes You known. Amen.
