A disciple follows Jesus daily by abiding in His Word and Spirit, practicing prayer and worship, belonging to His church, obeying what He teaches, serving others, and joining His mission.

Follow a Person
Discipleship begins with Jesus’ call, “Follow Me.” We do not merely adopt principles while keeping control of our lives. We learn His teaching, imitate His character, receive His correction, participate in His mission, and yield to His authority.
Taking up the cross means self-rule no longer has the final word. This surrender is not a single dramatic moment only. It becomes a daily pattern of saying yes to Jesus.
Abide before you strive
Jesus describes life with Him as branches abiding in a vine. Fruit grows from connection. Prayer, Scripture, worship, and quiet attentiveness are not methods for forcing spiritual productivity; they are practices of remaining available to the life of Christ.
Begin simply and consistently. Set a regular place and time. Read Scripture in context. Pray honestly. Worship beyond public services. Listen and obey. When routines break, return without shame. The goal is relationship, not a perfect streak.
Belong to the church
Acts 2 believers continued in apostolic teaching, fellowship, shared meals, prayer, generosity, worship, and witness. Christianity was never designed as solo spirituality. We need people who know us, encourage us, correct us, and receive our gifts.
Commit to gathering, build relationships, submit to healthy spiritual care, participate in communion and prayer, and begin serving. Belonging is not passive attendance; it is shared life in Christ.
Obey and make Him known
Jesus says love and obedience belong together. We do not obey to persuade Him to love us. Because He loved and saved us, we learn to keep His commands. Each act of obedience forms Christ’s life in us and makes His rule visible.
Every disciple is also sent. Share what Jesus has done, pray for people, invite others into Scripture and community, serve tangible needs, and learn to make disciples. You do not need to know everything before becoming a witness; tell the truth you have received while continuing to grow.
Continue by grace
Growth will include joy, failure, correction, waiting, and renewed surrender. When you sin, confess and return. When you feel dry, remain. When you are confused, stay in Scripture and community. When God convicts, respond quickly.
The same grace that began salvation teaches and sustains us. Spiritual disciplines are not ladders to earn God; they are ways of making room to receive, remember, and respond to His grace.
Grace Revealed
Grace does not hide truth. Grace reveals and enables.
Grace trains us to deny ungodliness and live toward God. It does not merely open the door and leave us alone. Christ’s grace forgives failure, supplies power, teaches holy living, and keeps calling us forward.
Knowing Him
Doctrine leads toward intimacy.
The goal of every practice is communion with Jesus. Read to hear Him, pray to share life with Him, worship to behold Him, gather to encounter Him among His people, and obey to remain in His love.
Why this matters for salvation
Every truth belongs within God’s saving purpose.
Jesus saves people into a continuing life of discipleship. Perseverance, holiness, community, witness, and spiritual formation do not replace the new birth; they are the lived shape of salvation as God keeps and transforms His people.

Lord Jesus, I choose to follow You. Establish me in Your Word, teach me to pray, join me deeply to Your people, and make my obedience joyful. When I fail, draw me back by grace. Form Your life in me and use me to help others know You. Amen.
